Inova Female Cadaveric Anatomy and Rehabilitative Pelvic Floor Ultrasound Symposium

APTA approved course sealPelvic floor physical therapists whose practice focus is on female patients with background in orthopedic/musculoskeletal coursework in their curriculum prior to attending the course. Pelvic Health Training (3 day course) and one year of experience is preferred. This is an intermediate level rehabilitative ultrasound imaging course intended for therapists having a sound knowledge in training techniques for the local stabilizing muscles of the pelvic floor, transverse abdominals, and deep multifidi muscles and experience with internal vaginal exam. Prior coursework regarding the local stabilizing pelvic floor muscles is encouraged if not required.

Assignments

Pre-readings will be provided electronically to course participants for completion prior to the course. A printed lecture manual along with the post-course final exam, survey and a Course Completion. A printed lab manual will be provided on-site.

Presenter Information

Ramona C. Horton, MPT, DPT
Dr. Horton developed the pelvic health physical therapy program for the Asante Health System, Medford, OR and serves as the clinic’s lead pelvic health therapist. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Idaho State University, a master’s in physical therapy from Baylor University via the US Army, exiting the army at the rank of Captain. She completed her education with a doctorate in physical therapy from AT Still University. Ramona is a frequent lecturer at professional meetings on topic of musculoskeletal contribution in pelvic dysfunction, serving as an instructor for the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. She was as a member of the team that developed the Pathway ultrasound imaging system specific for physical therapy applications. Recipient of the American Physical Therapy Association, Academy of Pelvic Health Elizabeth Noble Award for contributions to the profession of pelvic health PT. 

Pany Nazari, PT, DPT, BCB-PMD, PRPC
Dr. Pany Nazari has been a practicing physical therapist for close to 30 years in the areas of orthopedic and pelvic rehab. After building the Pelvic Rehab program at Virginia Hospital Center, she pursued her lifelong goal of establishing her own clinic in order to provide a more personal care experience and serve a bigger role in academia.

Dr. Nazari received her BS degree in 1994 from Howard University in Washington, DC, and her doctorate degree in 2016 from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Her passion is to utilize her manual therapy skills, use of rehabilitative ultrasound, and a strong emphasis on patient education to facilitate optimal function for individuals. She is a fellow, has been board certified in the use of Biofeedback for Pelvic Muscle Disorders since 2005, and holds certification as a Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner from the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute.

She is a clinical instructor for George Washington University in the Department of Physical Therapy and Health Care Science and a faculty member of Herman and Wallace Rehabilitation Institute. She continuously expands her own knowledge by attending various conferences and is a member of the International Pelvic Pain Society, National Vulvodynia Association, and International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health.

S. Abbas Shobeiri, MD
Professor Shobeiri is the System Chief of Gynecology for the INOVA Health System in Falls Church, Virginia, USA, which is ranked #6 in Gynecology by US World News. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, MD, from TUFTS University in Boston. He completed his residency and fellowship at Tulane and LSU in New Orleans. Dr. Shobeiri has been the recipient of research and educational awards. He has been a grant reviewer for ACOG, AUGS, IUGA, and American Federation for Aging Research. He is a manuscript reviewer for Urology, Journal of Urogynecology & pelvic floor Dysfunction, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurourology & Urodynamics, and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. He has authored >200 articles in scientific journals and numerous chapters for textbooks standard to the field of Urogynecology. He is the editor of several textbooks standard to Urogynecology: Practical Pelvic Floor Ultrasonography: A Multicompartmental Approach to 2D/3D/4D Ultrasonography of Pelvic Floor (2nd Edition 2017), and The Innovation and Evolution of Medical Devices: Vaginal Mesh Kits (2019). He has chaired ultrasound workshops at the International Continence Society (ICS), International Urogynecological Association (IUGA), and worldwide institutions. Additionally, he has served on the Research and the Program committees at AUGS and IUGA. He was the Chair of AUGS Mesh SIG at AUGS.

His primary clinical and research interest has been elucidating the pathophysiology of birthrelated pelvic floor injury using 3D ultrasound and surgical repair. Dr. Shobeiri's expertise in levator ani repair after childbirth draws patients for evaluation. During the emergence of vaginal mesh kits complications in the late 2000s, his studies and lectures significantly advanced the course of patient safety.
