A free Ask the Expert lecture from Inova

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can affect focus, organization, school, relationships, emotional regulation and everyday life of teens and adolescents. It can also be part of a person’s individuality, including how they think, create, connect and move through the world. In this Ask the Expert session, Catherine Rathman, PhD, licensed clinical psychologist at Inova Kellar Center, will help you better understand ADHD including how symptoms can show up differently across individuals, when to seek an evaluation and what treatment and support options may help.

As both a psychologist and the parent of a daughter with ADHD, Dr. Rathman brings professional expertise and personal insight to this conversation. She will explore ADHD through a balanced lens, recognizing both the challenges it can bring and unique perspectives that may be part of the experience. The session will also address common misconceptions and offer practical guidance for families and individuals looking for trusted information.

You’ll learn more about:

   • Common signs and symptoms in children and teens
   • The different ways ADHD can present and how they may look in daily life
   • How ADHD is evaluated and diagnosed
   • Treatment and support options for children and teens
   • Common myths and misunderstandings
