Heart disease remains the number one killer for men and women in the United States. It is responsible for one out of every three female deaths, including those from stroke and heart failure. Yet women are often underdiagnosed and untreated.
Join Virginia Heart cardiologist Paula Pinell-Salles, MD, for an interactive discussion about women’s unique cardiovascular needs and risk factors. Dr. Pinell-Salles will also describe the specialized services provided by the team of experts in the Inova Women’s Cardiovascular Health Program.
Dr. Pinell-Salles is board certified in cardiovascular disease and specializes in general cardiology, vascular medicine and women’s heart health. She is a founding member of the provider panel for the Inova Women's Cardiovascular Health Program and the Inova Cardio-Obstetrics Program and partners with Inova leadership to advance women’s health and prevention initiatives.
Why it matters:
Women’s hearts differ from men’s in both structure and function, and hormonal changes that take place throughout their lives, including during pregnancy and menopause, impact their level of risk for heart disease. It’s important to “know your numbers” – from blood pressure to blood sugar – and to be a strong advocate for yourself and your loved ones.
